King of Hearts edition by Brady Cook Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
- What an excellent book about Solomon in all his aspects. Just like King Solomon wrote widely in Psalms, wise sayings, love stories, and philosophy, so does Brady's book cover all the aspects of Solomon's life. He starts with history, then ties that history to Solomon's writings and sayings, and then gives perspective on Solomon's life as reflected by other authors within the Old and New Testament.
At 97 pages, this book is short enough to be great Sunday small group subject matter, but it is long enough to be an engaging read, diving deep into the heart of an enigmatic figure. The books is long enough to truly show the tragedy of Solomon's life without getting bogged down, and it will help you go beyond the Sunday School-deep stories about the wisest king to really understand the man, and--through a masterful conclusion that encourages reflection--understand yourself better as well. - Bible students are familiar with Solomon รข€“ the son of David, wealthy king, builder of the temple, and the wisest man of the earth. His wisdom has been written down for us in the Scriptures, as well as his failings and departure from God.
In studying the Bible, it always seemed as though there was a disconnect between Solomon the king and Solomon the wisdom writer. The king was foolish and his actions led to the downfall of the kingdom. The writer had divinely-given wisdom that showed the right course to take. How could this wise man get himself caught up into so many foolish and destructive things?
King of Hearts really helped humanize Solomon. Yes, he was blessed by God with wisdom, but he also was able to choose whether he would follow it or not, and too many times he did not. Often in Bible classes we will study EITHER the history of Solomon (Kings and Chronicles) OR the writings of Solomon (Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon), which paints an incomplete picture of this man. This book pulls all of that information together to present a complete picture of King Solomon in a way that is concise and easy to read.
Not only is this book extremely helpful in understanding the history and writings of Solomon, it is also filled with practical lessons for us today. I highly recommend this book. - Once again Brady Cook has delivered. The content brought out is thought provoking and some are some I had never thought about. He references plenty of verses to backup his thoughts. Recommend
- I really enjoyed this book. I thought is was an easy read, and really got me thinking. I will be starting my study of 1 and 2 Kings.
- This is an excellent read! Not often is there a concise look at the complete picture of Solomon across all the Old Testament writings, including his own works. This book gives you a chance at some new approaches to the character and life of Soloman. Check it out, it's a very good read!
