"The little-known (in the U.S.) Russo-Japanese War was predominantly a naval conflict in terms of the resulting victor nation, which was Japan. However, there were numerous brutal land incursions on the Asian continent such as The Battle of the Yalu River and the Battle of Mukden. The fighting on land and sea went on from 1904 to 1905.

This book is a superb account of all the action concerning this war, as well as a shrewd examination of the innumerable political implications. One such result was the Russian peoples' general dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the war which contributed to the 1905 Russian Revolution under Tsar Nicholas II, a notably inept leader.

This book was written immediately following the Russo-Japanese War and is quite authoritative, Unger having been a former War Correspondent for the London Times. The book was co-written by Charles Morris, LL.D. There are very nice black-and-white photographs and halftones of both the principals and the battle sites found throughout the work.

A must for historians interested in Russia, Asia, Korea, China, or Japan."
